Mark Davis spent to buy out Jack Del Rio and really spent to land Jon Gruden. Jed York spent to buy out Jim Tomsula and Chip Kelly in back-to-back years and to buy out Trent Baalke and spent more to land Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch. It's worth it.

Full credit to Mark Davis for landing Jon Gruden and to Gruden for the job he's done this season. I've questioned Gruden's big-picture personnel moves, but as a coach and charismatic leader, he's worth the money. From January 2018: t.co t.co

Mark Davis was always going to hire Gruden if he wanted to come back to the Raiders, I totally understand. BUT one of the key leverage points on Del Rio was that he wasn't getting the most out of their young defensive draftees from 2015-2017. Who are all mostly gone now.

Jack Del Rio says Mark Davis told him when he was hired (and then again when he signed his extension) that he would still pursue Jon Gruden and hire him if he ever had the chance: t.co t.co

I think Gruden knows how this has to go. He just has to talk it through with Mayock and of course Mark Davis. No way Brown can play Week 1 and that might trigger all sorts of other things. Gotta understand all that. t.co

I'm sure I'll be accused of being a Raider-hater for saying all this, but I'm pointing out that it would be better for everybody involved--except Mark Davis' checkbook--if the Raiders kept all their home games at their actual home stadium.
